Alternatives North is a social justice coalition operating in the Northwest Territories. Within our ranks are representatives of churches, labour unions, environmental organizations, women and family advocates and anti-poverty groups.  Individual citizens are important participants in our work.

Alternatives North regularly meets Wednesday's at noon in the boardroom of the Public Service Alliance of Canada, 4916-49th Street Yellowknife, NT. New participants are welcome but call 867-920-2765 ahead of time to ensure the meeting has not been rescheduled or temporarily moved to another location.

Giant Mine Environmental Agreement Signed  

Alternatives North announces the signing of an Environmental Agreement covering the Giant Mine Remediation Project.  The Giant Mine Environmental Agreement is a key milestone in the implementation of the 26 binding measures from the Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board during the six-year long environmental assessment of the Giant Mine Remediation Project. AN Requests Fracking Moratorium 

Alternatives North has written the GNWT asking for a moratorium on fracking in the NWT pending completion of a comprehensive environmental review.  Read the letter to the responsible minister.  Read the Minister's response letter.
