Alternatives North is a social justice coalition operating in the Northwest Territories. Within our ranks are representatives of churches, labour unions, environmental organizations, women and family advocates and anti-poverty groups.  Individual citizens are important participants in our work.

Alternatives North regularly meets Wednesday's at noon in the boardroom of the Public Service Alliance of Canada, 4916-49th Street Yellowknife, NT. New participants are welcome but call 867-920-2765 ahead of time to ensure the meeting has not been rescheduled or temporarily moved to another location.

Poverty Action Analysis  
The No Place for Poverty Coalition applauds the NWT government for its continued investment in poverty reduction in the 2015 budget. An even greater investment is needed by the next Legislative Assembly to ensure people with low income are able to move out of poverty for good.  Read the media release.

Sign the Fracking Moratorium Petition 

An NWT Legislative Assembly on-line petition is urging the Government of the Northwest Territories to put a moratorium on horizontal hydraulic fracturing (fracking) until a review of the cumulative environmental, social and economic risks and benefits of the process is completed.  Read the media release

More Than Industry Members Needed 

Alternatives North has written the GNWT Minister of Industry to say the new Mining Industry Advisory Board needs representatives from to represent social and environmental interests.  See the letter.
