Alternatives North is a social justice coalition operating in the Northwest Territories. Within our ranks are representatives of churches, labour unions, environmental organizations, women and family advocates and anti-poverty groups.  Individual citizens are important participants in our work.

Alternatives North regularly meets Wednesday's at noon in the boardroom of the Public Service Alliance of Canada, 4916-49th Street Yellowknife, NT. New participants are welcome but call 867-920-2765 ahead of time to ensure the meeting has not been rescheduled or temporarily moved to another location.

Fracking and MGP Letters 

Alternatives North has sent a letter to the National Energy Board regarding the request for an extension of the Mackenzie Gas Project approval sunset clause, and, a letter to GNWT Industry Minister Dave Ramsay regarding proposed fracking regulations and the need for environmental review.

Annual General Meeting
November 4 at Noon 

Alternatives North will hold its 2015 Annual General Meeting November 4, 2015 at 12 PM at the Public Service Alliance of Canada Boardroom, 4916 49th Street in Yellowknife.  The public is welcome to attend.

Federal All Candidates Forum 

Alternatives North is hosting a forum for all candidates running in the October 19 federal general election.  The public is invited to attend Wednesday October 7 beginning at 7 PM at Northern United Place.  Candidates will answer questions posed by social justice groups and respond to audience questions.  Attend, or watch the forum rebroadcast starting October 8 at www.ecologynorth.ca

YK Living Wage Announced 

Alternatives North has announced the results of a living wage pilot project for Yellowknife, which estimates that a family of four with two full-time wage earners and two children require an income of $20.68 per hour to meet basic expenses.  See the media release, infographic and the full report.
